Professional Leadership & Collaboration

Jamie Jo Skeen brings experienced, inclusive leadership rooted in active listening, transparency, and teamwork. As a former elected City Councilmember, Jo understands how to navigate government systems, build consensus, and deliver results for the community. She knows that meaningful progress happens when leaders work with the community — not just for it — and is committed to strengthening collaboration between city departments, local organizations, small businesses, and residents to ensure policies reflect the voices and needs of all.

Affordable Housing

We're on a path to meeting our goals, but affordable housing remains an all-time commitment to ensuring that everyone in our community can live, work, and thrive. There is always work to be done to meet the growing needs of our residents. Everyone deserves a safe, stable place to call home, and Jo is dedicated to expanding access to affordable housing for working families, seniors, and those most vulnerable. She supports innovative housing solutions that prioritize both equity and sustainability, championing smart, community-informed policies that help people stay in the neighborhoods they love.

Public Safety

When Jo first moved to Burien, the city was struggling—but she saw its heart and the strength of its people. Over time, she saw it transition. Burien in 2025 looks different, and that progress didn’t happen by accident. It came from the current council and community members showing up, speaking out, and investing in solutions that work. The city must keep moving in a positive direction—especially when it comes to public safety.

Jo believe's in practical, results-driven approaches that address root causes and support neighborhoods. That means strengthening community-based solutions and rebuilding trust by investing in the officers who serve the city and expanding mental health services.

Economic Development

A thriving local economy means opportunity for everyone. Jo is focused on supporting small businesses, encouraging responsible development, and creating inclusive opportunities across the community. She believes in growing a resilient economy that reflects the strengths of the community — from investing in local entrepreneurs to removing barriers for underrepresented business owners. Jo frequently visits local shops and drives through neighborhoods to better understand the needs, character, and potential of the communities she serves, ensuring her approach to economic development is rooted in real, on-the-ground connection.
